24/08/17 – Event Cancellation.

Statement from Bundoran Lifeboat Soapbox Race Committee
It is with deep regret that the organising committee of the Bundoran Lifeboat Soapbox Race has taken the decision to cancel this Sunday’s re-scheduled event at Astoria Road. This has not been done lightly and was taken following an examination of several weather forecasts for the weekend; all of which point to rain on Sunday afternoon. Following the recent poor weather which hit the North West and the damage it inflicted, the committee feel it would be unwise to go-ahead with the event which is so dependent on a good forecast for its success. The safety and comfort of the volunteers, participants and spectators is of paramount importance.
The Bundoran Lifeboat Soapbox Race is a major fundraiser for the RNLI and to run it to the professional standard required, involves the securing of materials and services at a cost. The cancellation of the event at very short notice incurs a financial loss for the event as well as huge amount of disappointment to the participants.
With all of this in mind the Committee have taken the difficult but necessary decision not reschedule the event for this year.
The Committee would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused at this point and again to assure everyone involved that this decision was not taken lightly.
Thank you for your continued support of Bundoran RNLI.

22/08/17 – Traffic Arrangements

Astoria Road will be closed from 8am to facilitate the setup of the soapbox race. Alternative routes are available via Main Street and Sea Road. **DANIEL O’DONNELL TRAFFIC** Traffic for Daniel O’Donnell at the Great Northern Hotel this Sunday night (27th August) should use Sea Road for early afternoon access to the hotel as the Astoria Road will be closed until late afternoon. The Sea Road route will be signposted. The Bundoran RNLI crew thank you for your cooperation. The Main Beach Car Park will be open as normal – access via Sea Road.

22/08/17 – Road closure granted

We are pleased to announce that Donegal County Council have granted us the road closure.

Final Notice-page-001

We are delighted to announce that we have rescheduled this year’s soapbox race to Sunday August 27th. Online entries now being accepted. Further details to follow!

Following detailed studies of the weather forecast from a number of different sources in the past 24 hours, the decision has been taken by the organising team to cancel this Sunday’s (4th June) planned Bundoran Lifeboat Soapbox Race. Weather conditions are expected to be wet and windy, and for the comfort and more importantly, safety, of our spectators, participants and crew, we have decided that this is the best course of action. We are hugely disappointed at having to make this decision as this is a day that all of the crew look forward to every year. Our street collection will go ahead as normal on Sunday and we hope that we can count on your ongoing generosity and support as we continue to fundraise to help save lives at sea.

We would ask you to share this message to ensure that word gets out to those who were planning to spectate or participate.

Thank you.

The Bundoran RNLI Lifeboat Crew.
